One of Upper Canada's Best Preserved Forts
|
|
Fort Wellington was built to protect against American attack during the War of 1812 and was rebuilt during the Rebellions of 1837 and 1838. Today, visitors explore the fort when the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment was stationed there from 1843-54. Guides in period costume of the 1840's assist visitors with their tour of the site. Explore the blockhouse or learn military drill while trying on a soldier's uniform. Demonstrations are ongoing throughout the summer months. Start off your tour in the Visitor Centre with exhibits, the Barrack Store and an orientation video.
